1940's Kitchen Update

"New" Kitchen for 18th Century House

My favorite kitchens are a mix of traditional and contemporary elements. I want the best and newest appliances I can afford, but I love the warmth that old floors, ceilings, furniture and accessories add to the room.

This Pennsylvania home was built in 1765. The homeowners wanted an updated kitchen that would fit into their antique home.

The design duo Anthony Baratta and William Diamond have completed a very colorful kitchen in Connecticut. Red counter tops, checkered ceiling, stenciled floor, this design team has "no fear" when it comes to color.

White Vermont Cape

I am in love with this 1820's Vermont kitchen. The farmhouse sink, multiple windows and warm antique wood floors give this kitchen so much personality. I usually go for rooms with much more color, but I could live in this kitchen.

As much as I love color inside a home, I prefer a white outside. Maybe it's the contrast I find so appealing, but I like the simplicity of this white antique cape with a metal roof and front and back porches.

How many different legs can a kitchen island have? This is a great idea and I like the juxtaposition of the rustic with the contemporary. The stools are pretty cool too.

This farmhouse kitchen is beautiful, filled with so many out of the ordinary details. Industrial furniture, rustic brick floors and contemporary tiles make up a unique, one of a kind kitchen.

Usually I don't care for dark wood cabinets, but they make this kitchen warm and inviting.
