Step It Up...The Desk

My next room in need of an update is my little dressing room next to the master bedroom. I call this "My Room" and I have filled it with hand-me-down pieces from other rooms in the house (daughter's daybed, dining room curtains, bedroom lamp...) but now it's time to give it some attention. I use this room as a dressing/ironing/extra bed room. I now need a place to keep my laptop and organize some of my paperwork. My business Vintage farmhouse is coming along nicely, but the basket in the den (my currant filing system) is no longer working.

I really need a desk-nothing too big. I love some of the vintage ones I keep seeing in Blog land. I have had a couple of opportunities to pick one up, but I waited too long and they were snatched up quickly.

Then I need an inspiration board to hang over the desk

I already have my desk chair...$5 at a garage sale. I love the color and natural distressing. I think I'll send this to the upholsterer to have a nice cushion seat made.

The Garden Shed

I would love to have a garden shed, actually we really need a storage shed but I want it to look something like this...

Marble Top Table

This side table needed some help, the marble is beautiful but the stand had a very bad white paint job. I thought instead of sanding the white away, I would just sand the rough spots and paint over it. My favorite thing to do with these revamped pieces is to distress. I never know the outcome...sometimes a little is good and sometimes a piece really needs to be worked on.

This time I ended up removing A LOT of the blue top coat...I like the extreme distressing. It looks like it will start peeling, but I put a sealer on it. I also painted the cute hardware black (hard to see the before).

I think "Tillie" is a good name...

Blast from the Past

I was looking through old photos and came across some of our last home. We moved to Maine in 2005, but before that we spent 7 years in Las Vegas, NV. My husband was in the Air Force and we were able to purchase our first home. We didn't mind that all the houses on the street looked pretty much alike, the inside is what counts.

My style has changed some...look at all those white walls! I now prefer a more eclectic look with vibrant color but I still have a lot of these furniture pieces. My hubby put in all the tile (gorgeous!), we learned a lot about home improvement with this home. I don't miss Las Vegas, but I do miss this home.

The Weekend

I am looking forward to a beautiful weekend. When the weather is nice I like to sit out on the porch and read a good book.

My "New" Old Table

I was going to sell this piece but the more I distressed, the more I liked it and the more I realized how nice it would look in my bathroom. I wish I had a before picture...this was an ugly maple side table with a damaged top and a large brass and porcelain handle. I found this red knob in my collection of hardware.

The distressing on this was actually a "happy accident". I ran out of the yellow paint and instead of buying more I just started to hand sand to make the sparse areas look worn.
